A Teenager and a Poem in the Post-9/11 World
29.09.11
It is clear that Mr. Lonergan , an admired playwright as well as a filmmaker, adores his sensitive, bratty heroine and is willing to devote every imaginative resource at his disposal to the exploration of her emotional environment and inner life. feels not like a standard American coming-of-age story, but like a French movie, more concerned with candor than with likability and driven less by the mechanisms of a plot than by a ranging, probing interest in personalities and relationships. It is the blight man was born for/It is Margaret you mourn for&rdquo. the speaker concludes, musing, with empathy and a bit of condescension, on the grief that attends the girl&rsquo. Lisa, played with verve, conviction and realistically irritating precocity by Anna Paquin , is to Mr. Lonergan more or less what Margaret was to Hopkins. lasts two and a half hours and feels as if it were trimmed from something much longer. Definitely more, come to think of it, since the poem runs a scant 15 lines,... Read More »

The group, which started with 60 members, has seen a decline in membership, mostly because Northerners who live in Orange City, come and go. And people don't know that the community group watch exists, Lariscy said. About 11 neighborhood watches combined to form the group, said Orange City police Sgt. ORANGE CITY -- Criminals and would-be criminals have less chances of getting away with their mischief in neighborhoods around here because extra eyes are watching their movements. A recently formed Community Group Watch is helping police keep tabs on criminal activity. "Instead of having all these isolated groups we thought that it would be better to have one group that would meet and discuss ways how to combat crime. Although there is no rash of car burglaries, there are bursts that affect neighborhoods now and again, Lariscy said. Read More »
In 2005, the school board estimated the class of 2015 to be around 300 when we enter high school. To start off, I am one of the shortest kids in school. Secondly, the high school is going under construction this year. Being towered over by kids I've known since kindergarten kinda freaks me out. (There's about 1,700 students in the high school. They're adding on to what has been added before. Finally, this year my family is hosting a foreign-exchange student from Germany. ) And they said that the construction won't be done 'til our SENIOR YEAR. My class is the largest so far, a whopping 407 students. Not only is it because I'm a 9th grader, but it's because I'm half Filipino. And Filipinos are NOT tall....

Novak Djokovic v Roger Federer - live!
10.09.11
The pair have met 23 times, with Federer winning 14 to Djokovic's nine, but in the past two years it's a much closer 5-4 to the Swiss and in 2011 it's 3-1 to Djokovic with that defeat on the red clay at Roland Garros the only blemish. Federer beat the Joker in the last four at the French Open earlier this year. And now at the US Open 2011 All four have reached the semi-finals once more. The last man to deny the Serb a place in a final was his opponent today. You've been chased around by insectoid killing machines with acid for blood for the best part of a day, but at some point you're going to need a comfort break. He's reached six successive grand-slam semis, and three of the last four finals, winning two of them. Djokovic is, increasingly, the man to beat. But what about going to the loo. In that sort of stressful situation, sleep is going to be tricky. In other news , thanks to a slight diary error, I'm missing a retro Worms and whiskey marathon at a friend's house tonight. Sunny Africa
Alice's flight from Paris was delayed due to 'an electrical fault', the plane had to turn back so she fell asleep on the plane and thought she had arrived in SA, got off and everyone was still speaking French. I didn't get much sleep, the guy behind me was talking really loudly to the one next to him at 4am, but the plane food was actually pretty good. Lizzie and I arrived on 7th after a smooth flight via Zurich (we got extra leg room in the front row of economy). We were won over by the Swiss cheese and chocolate. She queued for hours for a 'complimentary' hotel room in Paris, got treated to a buffet and champagne, but still, what a nightmare. Anyhow, it's so sunny in SA. Pretty hot too, which makes me wonder what the summers are like if this...
We don't usually buy such things, but they were on sale so I relented. It is six and a half days a week of long, hard days, but we feel we are incredibly blessed to be where we are and feel that God has led us in every step to get us here. Usually they are very "good" when we're in the grocery store, but that day they wanted everything. Our hope and prayer is to work daily for Him, knowing that in the end, we will hear "Well done, Good and Faithful Servant". The one thing they asked for and actually got was doughnuts. The kids and I went shopping on Monday as well.
How Marketing Tech Towards Women Hasn’t Changed Much in 100 Years
We’ve seen manufacturers battle each other to create female friendly gadgets (likely due to stats that say women control 80% of household spending), from products slapped with pink, to entries where more thought has gone into them. There’s been a noticeable uptick to women being well informed about their gadget purchases- and sites like Chip Chick show this area is growing, rather than falling. This made advertisers- and product creators- realize they needed to start tailoring their devices towards the female of the household, and once this started- well. ) and the extreme patriarchal dominance that overshadows much of the Western world might lead you to believe that women have been a little slow to get involved in the gadget department, but research shows this isn’t exactly the case. The sector might be booming nowadays, but there has always been a place for women and gadgets- and we can prove this historically. As society evolved, women have grown into miniature tech powerhouses,......
